Celebrating the Year of the Dragon the Royal Australian Mint has released this 2024 $5 Domed Fine Silver Proof Coin.

Chinese New Year is celebrated throughout the world, and coins are considered to be a traditional gift.

Celebrating the fifth animal in the zodiac, this 1oz silver domed coin is an impressive tribute to the Chinese lunar Year of the Dragon.

The dragon commands the highest respect in Chinese culture. For thousands of years, it was associated with the emperor and his descendants, symbolising wisdom, enlightenment, and benevolence. The dragon is also one of the 12 animals featured in the ancient lunar calendar. Those born under the sign of the lunar dragon in 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976 and every 12th preceding year, are said to be ambitious, successful and charismatic.

The reverse of this 2024 $5 Domed Fine Silver Proof Coin features the mythical Dragon surrounded by auspicious clouds.  The obverse bears the Lunar calendar wheel, rotated so that the Dragon is shown at the top, along with the Clark effigy of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
