The Royal Australian Mint supports the Australian Winter Paralympic Team as they take on the world at the 2026 Milano Cortina Games.
This 2026 $1 Coloured Uncirculated Coin embodies the determination, courage and the true spirit of the Paralympic movement.
Australia first competed at the Winter Paralympic Games in 1980 in Gello, Norway, with two athletes.
It wasn't until 1992 in Albertville, France, the Australia won its first medal - a bronze by Michael Milton for alpine skiing.
Milton went on to become a Paralympic legend, winning, six gold, three silver and two bronze medals across four Games, and setting the foundation for Australia's success on snow.
Following his tracks, athletes like Bart Bunting, Jess Gallagher and Simon Patmore have continued Australia's proud tradition.
Bunting won multiple golds in visually impaired alpine skiing in 2002.
Gallagher became Australia's first female Winter Paralympic medalist in 2010, and Patmore made history in 2018 by becoming the first Australian man to win medals at both the Summer and Winter Paralympics.
Australia's Winter Paralympic athletes consistently punch above their weight, overcoming challenges to shine on the world stage. Their legacy is one of courage, excellence and national pride - making Australia a respected and inspiring presence in Paralympic winter sort.
