The Perth Mint has just released this Stamp and Coin Cover featuring Hello Kitty and Friends.
Hello Kitty is a globally recognised character created by the Japanese company Sanrio in 1974, designed by illustrator Yuko Shimizu.
First appearing on a small vinyl coin purse. Despite often being mistaken for a cat, Sanrio explained that Hello Kitty is actually a young girl named Kitty White who lives in London with her family - a choice made to reflect the international appeal of British culture, which was popular in Japan at the time.
Over the decades, Hello Kitty has grown far beyond children's merchandise, appearing in fashion art collaborations, theme parks, and even medical and aviation branding to become a powerful symbol of kawaii (cute) culture and one of the most successful fictional characters in the world.
The coloured reverse of the coin portrays Hello Kitty wearing pink overalls and the iconic red bow on her head.
The design is set against a background of stars and dots and includes the inscriptions 'HELLO KITTY AND FRIENDS' and © 2026 SANRIO.
Issued as Australian legal tender, the uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card with a circular window revealing the coin's reverse and obverse designs.
On the obverse, the coin bears the Jody Clarke effigy of His Majesty King Charles III and monetary domination.
Fixed to the envelope is an official Australia Post stamp which is post marked First Day of Issue and the envelope includes Australia Post's Seal of Authenticity.
