This medallion features a lenticular design, meaning you can see the image of the TV shift from black and white to colour as you change your viewing angle.
At midnight on 1 March 1975, television officially burst into colour across Australia. Preparing for C-Day, as it was called, all major networks devised catchy slogans: 'Come to Colour", said the ABC;, Nine Network declared it was in 'Living Colour'; and Seven Network trumpeted 'Seven Colours Your World'.
The use of the American spelling of colour was curious, given that Australia was years behind the rest of the world in adopting colour broadcasting; USA and Canada had made the transition by the mid-1960s.
Making up for lost time, we embraced colour television with great enthusiasm. By 1978, more than 64 per cent of households in Melbourne and Sydney had purchased a new PAL standard colour television set.
Heartfelt birthday wishes can liven up a person's day, no matter how young or old they are. Issued as Australian legal tender, the uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card with circular window revealing the coin's reverse and obverse designs.
Each medallion's reverse features a lenticular TV design.
Affixed to the envelope is an official Australia Post $1.50 stamp. The envelope is postmarked for the first day of issue and the envelope includes Australia Post's Seal of Authenticity.
