The title of this stamp issue, Ngana Nyitting, translates as 'My Dreaming' in the Yamatji (Ngang) and Nyungar (Nyitting) languages. Artist Kevin Bynder was born in Boorloo / Perth in 1975 to a Whadjuk-Yued Nyungar mother and a Widi-Badimia Yamatji father. His paternal grandparents were born in the Yamatji Region in the mid-west of Western Australia. His Nana is an Amangu Yamatji and his Pop is a Badimia Yamatji.
This stamp shows their Barna (Country), from the blue waterways of the Greenough River to the hills of Mount Magnet. The circles joining a pathway are the songlines. The songlines are the history taught to the younger generation through songs when walking the land. The large circle represents the Yamatji Region and the U symbols the elders.
The coin's reverse represents an illustration of the blue waterways of the Greenough River to the hills of Mount Magnet. The large circle represents the Yamatji Region surrounded by U symbols representing the elders. As well as the artist's initials and the year-date, the reverse also incorporates The Perth Mint's 'P' Mintmark.
Issued as legal tender under the Australia Currency Act 1965, this uncirculated coin is housed in a beautifully designed card inside an illustrated envelope.
Affixed to the envelope is a $1.70 official Australia Post stamps. The stamp is postmarked for the first day of issue and the envelope includes Australia Post's Seal of Authenticity.
