This issue features portraits of three official war photographers of World War I and II. Briton Herbert Baldwin (1880-1920) was Australia's first commissioned war photographer, engaged to record Australian troops on the Western Front in late1916 and early 1917. The First photographer commissioned by the Australia government during World War II was Damien Parer (1912-1944). He served in the Middle East and North Africa, before joining Western Forces in New Guinea in 1942. New Zealand-born George Silk (1916-2004) was the second photographer commissioned during World War II. He arrived in the Middle East in May 1940, before photographing the war campaign in the Pacific.
Limited mintage of just 2,500 medallion covers.
Issued as 62x35mm Camera shaped medallion, from Zinc Alloy and housed in a beautifully designed card with a circular window revealing the medallion's reverse and obverse designs.
The medallions obverse bears an film strip image.
Fixed to the envelope is 3 official Australia Post $1.50 stamps which is post marked First Day of Issue and the envelope includes Australia Post's Seal of Authenticity.
