2024 50c NAIDOC Week Coloured Frosted Uncirculated Coin & Stamp PNC

2024 commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) being formed entirely of Indigenous peoples.

The Royal Australian Mint honours this historic milestone and the rich cultural heritage and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with this 2024 50c Coloured Frosted Uncirculated Coin designed by Dagoman, Wardaman, Gurindj artist Cortney Glass.

NAIDOC Week, observed annually from the first Sunday in July celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements. Its origins date back to the 1920s, when early Indigenous rights groups began advocating for better conditions and recognition.

This was followed in 1938, when Indigenous leaders organised the Day of Mourning, protesting the treatment of Indigenous Australians.

In 1957, the National Aboriginals Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) was established, designating a national day for Aboriginal celebrations.

By 1991, it evolved into NAIDOC, inclusive of Torres Strait Islander peoples, and expanded to a week-long event.

Each year, NAIDOC Week features themes that highlight different aspects of Indigenous culture and history, fostering awareness and understanding.

NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity for all Australians to engage with and celebrate the world's oldest continuous living cultures.

Each coin's reverse celebrates the 50th Anniversary of NAIDOC being formed entirely of Indigenous peoples and is designed by Dagoman, Wardaman, Gurindji artist, Cortney Glass.

The coin's obverse features in relief the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III designed by Daniel Thorne.

Each coin is issued as Australian Legal Tender.

The coin's obverse bears the Dan Thomas effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination.

Featuring an uncirculated coin from the Royal Australian Mint along with Postage Paid Australia Envelope.
