The Perth Mint is pleased to release this stunning 2oz silver coloured antiqued coin celebrating one of Mexico's greatest artists, Frida Kahlo.

Frida Kahlo is renowned for the use of vibrant colours, her paintings are celebrated for their attention to Mexican and indigenous culture, and universally admired for their depictions of the female experience and form. 

Her body of work includes many self-portraits reflecting the terrible pain and suffering she experienced throughout her life. 

Her struggles, her passion for Mexico, and her support of women's rights created a legacy which continues to resonate with people from all walks of life. Defying simple categorization, her style has been deemed surrealist, or akin to magic realist. Despite these comparisons, it is undeniable she broke the artistic mould in a unique way.

Seventy years after her passing, this tribute coin portrays a colourful portrait of the much-loved artist created by the Frida Kahlo Corporation, the organisation dedicated to educating, sharing and preserving her legacy and image.

Each coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.9% pure silver and is issued as legal tender of the Government of Tuvalu.

With a limited mintage of just 3,000 of the Frida Kahlo 2024 2oz Silver Coloured Antiqued coin is a must-have for art lovers and collectors alike.

The coin's reverse portrays a coloured portrait of the much-loved artist created by the Frida Kahlo Corporation. Symbolising Frida's indomitable spirit, the bold, expressive and beautiful work captures the essence of her vibrant soul. The distinct antique finish complements the intricate, coloured design and includes the inscription 'FRIDA KAHLO'.

The obverse portrays the Jody Clark effigy of HIs Majesty King Charles III, as well as the coin's weight, purity and monetary denomination, and year-date.

Each coin has been 'antiqued' by hand to give it a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an aged artefact. As a result of this treatment the appearance of other coins in the limited mintage may vary.

Each coin is housed in a vibrant, coloured box with a striking portrait of Frida Kahlo, within a beautifully illustrated shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
