2024 $2 Australian Lunar Series III Year of the Dragon 2oz Silver Antiqued Coin.

With the tones and surface abrasions of an ancient artefact, this 2oz silver release portrays the 2024 Year of the Dragon design in exceptional detail.

Celebrating the fifth animal in the zodiac, this 2oz silver antiqued coin is an impressive tribute to the Chinese lunar Year of the Dragon.

The dragon commands the highest respect in Chinese culture. For thousands of years, it was associated with the emperor and his descendants, symbolising wisdom, enlightenment, and benevolence. The dragon is also one of the 12 animals featured in the ancient lunar calendar. Those born under the sign of the lunar dragon in 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976 and every 12th preceding year, are said to be ambitious, successful and charismatic.

Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver, each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 1,888 of the Australian Lunar Series III Year of the Dragon 2024 2oz Silver Antiqued Coins.

The coin's reverse features a dragon with water cascading from its mouth. The design's detailed background includes representations of a village, a pagoda, a river, a river, a 'moon' bridge, traditional Chinese boats, mountains, and swirling clouds.

Included in the design is the  'P125" mintmark signifying the Perth Mint's 125th anniversary.

The coin bears the Jody Clark Memorial Obverse of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II supplemented with the dates of her reign '1952 -2022', as well as the weight, fineness and monetary denomination.Each coin has been individually 'antiqued' to give it a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact.

As a result of this treatment the appearance of each coin may vary.

Each coin is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid decorated with a silver geometric pattern. The case is packaged in a beautifully illustrated shipper portraying the story of how the dragon became an animal of the zodiac and is accompanied by  Numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

The shippers of future animals in the Lunar Series III will, when arrayed together, form a diorama depicting the ancient myth of The Great Race, which tells how the zodiac came into being.
