The Royal Australian Mint is proud to collaborate with the Australian Space Agency on the Out of this World - Australia in Space coins program. Working across government, industry and academia to advance Australia's position in the global space economy, the Agency is at the heart of space in Australia.
Australia has several advantages that make us a great place to do space. areas where Australia has a competitive edge or strategic interest are many, including positioning, navigation and timing, earth observation, communications technologies and services and much more.
Australia is going to the Moon! An Aussie designed and built rover will be part of NASA's Artemis program in the second half of the 2020s. The river is being developed by local industry and universities to demonstrate Australia's expertise in remote operations.
The rover will be operated from control station in Australia and collect lunar soil from which NASA will try to extract oxygen. This will see Australia play a direct role in NASA's mission to return to the Moon and on to Mars.
The coin's reverse design depicts a stylised scene featuring an Australian astronaut exploring space and with an insert paying homage to WRESAT 1, Australia's first satellite.
Each set contains a 'C' Mintmark and 'S', 'M' and 'B' Privymark coins.
The coins obverse features the effigy of King Charles III designed by Daniel Thorne.
Each coin is issued as Australian Legal Tender
