2023 Ningaloo Eclipse Medallion & Stamp Cover PNCThe rarest of eclipses is the hybrid (annular-total) solar eclipse, occurring roughly once a decade, with the last over this continent on 4 March 0881 CE.As it shifts from annular to total, a dazzling effect known as Bailey's Beads will be briefly visible as the Sun shines through the lunar mountains that pockmark the Moon's rim.On the morning of 20 April 2023, Western Australia's Exmouth peninsula will darken with the eclipse, totality exposing the Sun's corona for just 62 seconds. The hybrid solar eclipse starts its path of totality in the remote Southern Ocean as an annular eclipse, becoming a total eclipse through the centre of its journey before returning to annularity.During Exmouths' 'Ningaloo eclipse' the Moon's shadow will travel at 2,700 kilometres per hour on a path 41 kilometres wide, completing its journey in the north-eastern Pacific.The medallion's reverse features the coloured depiction of a Total Solar Eclipse in colour, the reverse features the stages of the eclipse.Affixed to the envelope is are 2 official Australia Post $1.20 stamps.
