The Elf on the Shelf : A Christmas Tradition is a 2005 children's picture book with rhyming text written by Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Ball, with illustrations by Coe' Steinwart.

The story follows Santa's Scout Elves, who visit families around the world and report to Santa each night during the holidays. 

Each morning the scout Elf land in a new spot in the home, creating a delightful game of Christmas hide-and-seek.

The story has sparked an enduring holiday tradition, inspiring clever elf scenes and antics for children to discover throughout each Christmas season.

Each coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1/2oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 2,000 of the Elf on the Shelf 2022 1/2oz Silver Proof Coins.

The coin's reverse features a coloured image of an elf in a red suit. The design includes representations of decorative baubles, the inscription 'The Elf on the Shelf" and The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark.

The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse with the coin's weight, fineness, monetary denomination and 2022 year-date.

Each coin is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid. Packaged with an illustrated shipper, each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
