Are you on the hunt for one of the Great Aussie Coin Hunt 3 Coins?
We're celebrating Australia from A-Z with a bunch of bonza Aussie icons to collect.
Collect the X $1 coin. X is for Crux – more commonly understood as the Southern Cross, is a constellation in the night sky, comprising six named stars but more easily identified by four bright stars forming a cross shape and two nearby stars known as the ‘two pointers’. The Southern Cross has many meanings for different First Nations groups. For Torres Strait Islander people, it is said to be the left hand of Tagai, while Indigenous groups in south-eastern Australia see the constellations as Bunya (a possum) being pursued by an emu. For others, it represents the footprint of a wedged-tail eagle, with the ‘two pointers’ representing a throwing stick used to hunt the eagle. It may not start with 'X', but this constellation has significant stories to tell.
Each coin is housed in a card and envelope with the corresponding letter.
Each coin is issued as Australian legal tender.
