T is for Tasmanian Devil – they may have a fierce name but in reality, these black and white marsupials are shy, nocturnal animals. Disappearing from mainland Australia long ago, Tassie devils were only found in Tasmania until they were recently reintroduced to New South Wales with a small breeding population. Sleeping during the day and coming out to feed at night, Tasmanian devils can roam up to 16 kilometres each night in search of food.

They’re certainly not fussy eaters and will feast on whatever animal is available, but prefer to eat dead carcasses than search for live prey. They have one of the strongest bites per unit of body mass for land animals, with its large head and neck allowing it crunch through bones!
