Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the Australian Opal Lunar Series – Year of the Tiger 1oz Silver Proof Coins.

The coin incorporates authentic Australian opal in its stunning tiger-shaped centrepiece. Including the Chinese character for ‘tiger’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the coin’s outer ring features intricate patterning and stylised depictions of cineraria flowers – considered lucky for those born in the Year of the Tiger.

The design includes the inscription YEAR OF THE TIGER, the 2022 year-date and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ Mintmark. 

The coin’s obverse features the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and the monetary denomination.
