2019 $1 Fair Dinkum Aussie Alphabet Vegemite V Coin & Stamp Cover PNC.The story of Australia's most beloved food product stretches back to 1922. It is a tale of technical and marketing nous that began at the Fred Walker company. Dr Cyril Callister was hired to develop a spread from one of the richest know natural sources of the Vitamin B Group - brewer's yeast. In 1923, the tasty, spreadable Pure Vegetable Extract hit the shelves, but dislodging Marmite from its dominant position in Australia proved a difficult task. Walker first sought to engage the market through a national competition to name the spread - but the winning 'Vegemite' did not dent Marmite's appeal. In a 1928 bid to emulate the success of Marmite, Walker re-branded VEGEMITE as Parwill, with the simple logic, 'If Marmite .... then Parwill". Yet it wasn't until 1937 that Walker's engagement strategy paid off with the limerick competition. Perhaps the generous prize pool was enough to get consumers behind the product and make it Australia's own.
