2018 AAT Crabeater Seal Stamp & Medallion Cover PNC.Australia Post have released this adorable coin and stamp cover featuring the Australian Antarctic Territory  Crabeater seal.The Crabeater Seal (Lobodon carcinophaga) is a true seal, or phocid, one of six such species in Antarctica. Like all true seals, it has no external ears or testes and it is unable to walk on its hind flippers. It ambulates by using its body muscles, though its fore flippers do offer support and help pull it through snow, and it can be quite agile on ice.The Crabeater Seal as a fine, dog-like face and a relatively slim, lithe body, with adults reaching 2-2.5m. Despite its name, the Crabeater Seal feeds mainly of krill. Its close-fitting, multi-cusped teeth are thought to have evolved precisely for sieving the krill. It can dive to around 600 meters and for periods of around 25 minutes, though its dives are generally though to be much shallower and shorter than this, and tied to the diumal activity of krill.It is coloured a silvery grey after moulting, which occurs in January-February, with a more chocolate-coloured back; it becomes a more uniform cream or pale gold as teh fur ages,a nd may have dark flecks on its shoulders, flanks or sides.
