2018 $5 Land, Sea & Air Coloured Fine Silver Proof Triangular CoinThis unique colour printed triangular proof coin commemorates the efforts and sacrifice of the Australian Defence Force, comprised of the Australian Army, the Royal Australian Air Force and the Royal Australian Navy. This is the final triangular coin design to feature the spectacular stained glass artwork from the Hall of Memory in the Australian War Memorial. The Commonwealth Military Force and Commonwealth Naval Force were established in 1901 by amalgamating the state-based military forces that had previously existed in each of the states. Both the Permanent Army and the Citizen Military Forces existed for home defence only, although the Australian Government established the Royal Australian Navy in 1911 for overseas service. At the outset of the First World War (and again during the Second World War) the Government raised the Australian Imperial Force exclusively for overseas services, basing its recruitment entirely on volunteers. The Australian Flying Corps was established in 1912 and went on to become the Royal Australian Air Force in 1921.The Australian Military Forces were reorganised following the Second World War. The Australian Regular Army formed in 1947 and was supported by the reorganised Citizen Military Forces. This branch of the Australian Defence Force subsequently went on to be officially called the Australian Army. having previously operated independently from each other , in 1976, each of the three services were grouped under a single headquarters command known as the Australian Defence Force. Each coin's reverse features elements inspired by the spectacular stained glass artwork created by Napier Waller in the Hall of Memory at the Australian War Memorial. Each coin is struck meticulously on a custom triangular blank.Mintage is strictly limited to 10,000.Issued in an attractive presentation case with themed outer packaging and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Each coin is issued as Australian Legal Tender. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley.Denomination : $5Metal : 99.9% pure SilverWeight : 22.23 gramsDiameter : 33.90 mmMintage : 10,000Authenticity : Royal Australian Mint Certificate of Authenticity
