There was jubilation at Sydney's ANZ Stadium on 2 October 2016 when the victorious Cronulla-Sutherlands Sharks ended their 49-year NRL Telstra Premiership wait.
The Sharks powered to a 14-12 win against the Melbourne Storm before 83,625 enthralled spectators.After the first points went to the Sharks, Paul Gallen and Ben Barba's scrum play drove them to an 8-0 lead at 15 minutes.
The Sharks continued to dominate the second half until the Storm's Jesse Bromwich reduced the deficit to two with 29 minutes remaining. In a gripping final 15 minutes, the Storm took the lead, leaving the Sharks with a 12-8 deficit.
The powerful front-rower Andrew Fifita wrestled with the storm's defenders on the Melbourne tryline before grounding the ball in the 69th minute.
Luke Lewis, who was a constant threat on the right edge of the Shark's attack, was awarded the Clive Churchill Medal for best player.
