Since 1993, the Royal Australian Mint has released the annual Kangaroo Series to commemorate Australia’s most iconic animal.

Continuing with this tradition, the first release in the new theme of Seasons Change features an adult female Eastern Grey Kangaroo and her offspring on the inland plane of Australia, her preferred habitat.

These fine silver editions showcase the intricate details of the reverse design, with an array of silver hues accentuated by the carefully sculpted elements.

As Australia’s most iconic animal, the kangaroo has captured the hearts of Australian numismatics since 1993 with the release of the Royal Australian Mint’s Kangaroo Series.

The 2016 Kangaroo Series continues this popular series with the release of a new theme that captures the exquisite and natural beauty of the kangaroo.

The reverse of the coin features a mother kangaroo and its offspring in the pouch of its mother.

A baby kangaroo stays in the pouch for a minimum of twelve months while it develops and feeds from the teat of its mother. 

After twelve months, the baby kangaroo becomes too big to remain in the pouch and leaves its safety to explore its new world freely. The Eastern Grey Kangaroo can be found across the inland plane and coastal landscape of Australia.

The reverse design features a winter inland plane with gum trees and mountain ranges. The reverse is a visually striking design that captures the natural beauty of Australia’s most iconic animal, the kangaroo.

A heart-warming depiction of a baby kangaroo and its mother in their natural habitat during the Winter period. Each coin in Season’s Change will follow the development of the joey against a new seasonal background.

The obverse of each coin features Queen Elizabeth II effigy sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley. Each coin is crafted from 99.9% pure silver with a limited mintage.

Each coin is issued as Australian legal tender.
