This gesture spoke for a nation that wished so emphatically to contribute to Commonwealth efforts in the First World War, which was being fought across the globe. The Coo-ee as they became known had increased in number to 263 by the time they had covered their 320 miles to arrive in Sydney and enlist, their youthful enthusiasm encouraging many men to answer the call from the Dardanelles along the way. News spread quickly and subsequent snowball marches started soon after all over Australia, the Coo-ees were joined in history by the Kookaburras, Kurrajongs and Boomerangs to name just a few.The Royal Australian Mint shares the spirit of the Coo-ees 100 years on with our annual Australia Remembers release. This coin forms part of the Royal Australian Mint’s Australia Remembers Coin Series.Produced in collaboration with Gilgandra Shire Council.Uncirculated coin comes in a presentation card. The reverse design features moving imagery of the Coo-ee marches. The obverse of the coin features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II effigy sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadly.Each coin is issued as Australian Legal Tender.Denomination : 20cQuality : UncirculatedMetal : Cupro NickelWeight : 11.30 gramsDiameter : 28.50 mmMintage : 30,000Certificate of Authenticity : Royal Australian Mint Commemorative PackagingAdvertising Date : 5th October 2015Release Date : 5th October 2015
