2015 20c ANZAC Centenary WWI Australian Imperial Force Unc Coin in RAM Card Legacy IssueThe Australian Imperial Force (AIF) was the name given to the military force raised by Australia in 1914 to fight in World War One.It was the only army in the war made up entirely of volunteers. Those who enlisted in the early months of the war were very keen and they had to meet tough physical requirements. Some had previous military experience, having fought in the Boer War.All would be lucky to survive the next four years of fighting. The AIF was one of the youngest armies from one of the youngest countries (Australia’s Federation had occurred just 13 years before), but it fought on some of the oldest battlefields in the world, where it proved itself a world-class army.Australian soldiers trained in the ancient city of Cairo, fought in Turkey, entered Jerusalem and Damascus – two of mankind’s most historic cities – helped to defeat the German Army on the Western Front. They also endured life in the trenches. Waterlogged and muddy, these were infested with rats and lice, exposed to the elements and fostered disease. You had to be tough – and lucky – to survive.Housed in an Official Royal Australian Mint presentation coloured card.Denomination : 20cQuality : UncirculatedMetal : Cupro NickelWeight : 11.30 gramsDiameter : 28.52 mmMintage : TBACertificate of Authenticity : Royal Australian Mint Commemorative PackagingAdvertising Date : 3rd April 2015Release Date : 3rd April 2015
