2014 $1 Dr Who Monsters – Cybermen 1/2oz Silver Proof Coin

Doctor Who is currently the longest running and most successful science fiction television series of all time. Produced in Great Britain by the BBC, the programme depicts the adventures of a time travelling, humanoid alien doctor known as the Doctor.

Originally born on Earth’s twin planet Mondas, the Cybermen were created as the Mondasians replaced parts of their dying bodies with plastic and steel. 

Eventually they added emotional inhibitors, supressing all feelings. Cybermen can convert humans wherever they go, and take orders from a Cyberleader, whose data can be downloaded to a drone if the leader is destroyed. Like the Daleks the Cybermen have dogged the Doctor through space and time.

In collaboration, BBC Worldwide Australia and New Zealand and New Zealand Mint offer this collectible 1/2oz Silver Proof coin to continue Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Issued by New Zealand Mint as legal tender under the authority of Niue Island, only 5,000 1/2oz silver proof coins will be released worldwide.

The coin’s reverse features an engraved Cuberman, set against a dramatic colour background surrounded by a finely engraved border design.

The words DOCTOR WHO also feature in the design.

The inner case sits inside a printed outer packaging, featuring an image of a Dalek. A Certificate of Authenticity is included inside the case.
