2013 GB £5 Diamond Jubilee Coronation Limited Edition PNCIn 2013 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrates the 60th Anniversary, or Diamond Jubilee of her Coronation as sovereign. Her Coronation took place in Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953.In a solemn ceremony, conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Elizabeth swore the coronation oath before she was consecrated and crowned with the St Edwards’s Crown, worn only once in a sovereign’s lifetime, at the coronation.The Crown’s use in coronation ceremonies dates from 1660 when it was commissioned for the coronation of King Charles II. The ornate State or ‘Glass Coach’ was used by the Queen to convey her from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey for the coronation ceremony. To mark this milestone the Royal Mint of the United Kingdom has issued a £5 Brilliant Uncirculated coin.The reverse, designed by Emma Nobel, features the Imperial State Crown which the Sovereign wears when the St Edwards Crown is removed in the St Edward’s Chapel at the end of the Coronation ceremony.The Imperial State Crown is the most famous of the royal crowns as it is worn by the Queen each year for the State Opening of Parliament.
