Australia's Age of Dinosaurs - Qantassaurus, Koolasuchus and Australovenator.During the Cretaceous period (around 145.5 million years to 65.5 million years ago) Australia was inhabited by prehistoric animals including dinosaurs.This stamp issue features some of these animals that lived in what is now eastern Australia from the cold polar conditions of southern Victoria to the more temperate climate of Queensland. This is the first glow-in-the-dark medallion produced by Australia Post.Qantassaurus was a small herbivorous dinosaur that lived around 120 million years ago in the freezing climate of Victoria. It was around a metre in height and had a beak-like mouth for nippin at vegetation, ridged teeth and muscular cheeks for chewing.It ran on powerful legs, using its long tail for balance. Fossils have been found at Inverloch, Victoria. Koolasuchus was a large, salamander-like amphibious predator that lived in icy streams in Victoria waiting to ambush its prey. It lived during the Early Cretaceous, around 120 million years ago.Fossils of Koolasuchus were first found near Kilcunda, Victoria. Australovenator, a meat-eating, fast-moving predator, had razor-sharp teeth and large, slashing claws on each hand. About two metre tall, it prowled Queensland forest 95 million years ago.
