2013 $1 Niue 60th Anniversary of Oil Discovery Silver Proof Coin

This coin captures Australia’s rugged pioneering spirit with a stunning ’raised’ full colour reverse design, struck from 25grams 92.5% sterling silver to proof quality. Oil was discovered in Western Australia in December 1953, sparking jubilation across the country.

This find provided a boost to the economy and also inspired a crucial wave of investment in the search for resources. 

As with gold, diamonds, opals, the discovery of oil changed Australia forever.
