2013 $1 Brisbane Show (EKKA) - Bicentenary of the Holey Dollar and Dump 'B' Counterstamp.The Brisbane Show was held between 8th August and 17th August 2013.The Royal Australian Mint had a booth which a special Show souvenir 'B' Counterstamp commemorating the 2013 Bicentenary of the Holey Dollar and Dump $1 Uncirculated Coin.The Holey Dollar and Dump, made from Spanish silver eight-reales, were introduced to stamp out the corrupt rum trade and provide the first official currency for the fledgling colony of New South Wales.In 1812, Governor Lachlan Macquarie arranged for a special shipment of 40 000 Spanish Dollars and set pardoned forger William Henshall to work fashioning the new currency.Taking approximately one year to complete the task, Henshall was able to develop his own minting technology with the limited resources of the colony at the time and he marked his work by placing the initial ‘H’ on some of the dies produced.
