2013 $1 Australian Bush Babies II Wombat Coin and Stamp Cover PNCThe Perth Mint and Australia Post have released the final aluminium bronze coin in this adorable series featuring iconic baby animals.The coin and stamp both feature the wombat, which is a marsupial native to Australia. Despite its fearless nature, the wombat has a short-legged muscular frame, which causes it to move slowly. Because of its stature, the wombat is known for taking short cuts.Wombats are generally not seen, but leave ample evidence of their passage.The wombat has a backwards-facing pouch, so that while digging burrows, dirt does not spill over its young. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card that fits inside a similarly illustrated envelope with a circular window revealing the coin’s reverse and obverse designs.The coin’s reverse features an irresistible image capturing the innocence of the baby wombat. As well as the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ Mintmark, the design features a ‘friendly’ Australian insect and delicately frosted representations of Australia bush flowers.
