2010 Mary MacKillop Stamp and 3 Medallion CoverMary MacKillop will become Australia's first canonised saint on 17th October 2010. She was best known as Mother Mary of the Cross, born on 15th January 1842 in Fitzroy, Melbourne, to Scottish parents.Mary was educated at private schools, but also by her father, who had studied for the priesthood at Rome.Mary began working to help her family but wished to become a nun, together with Fr Julian Tenison Woods, parish preist of Penola in South Australia, founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart.Mary was its first member and Superior, the order was founded at Penola on 19th amrch 1866 with a mission to live in poverty and to educate poor children.Mary died in Sydney on 8th August 1909.This limited edition 3 Medallion and Stamp Cover features Mary's first Schoolhosue in Penola, Mary with Schoolchildren and a portrait of Mary.
