2008 Megafauna Premium Limited Edition Commemorative Medallion.Issued by Australia Post to embrace the theme of Australian Megafauna.These extraordinary giant creatures roamed the Australian continent many thousands and even millions of years ago, becoming extinct between 20,000 and 50,000 years ago.Some of these animals co-existed with humans such as the marsupial lion and the large kangaroo.Pnc consists of three stamps featuring : 55c Genyornis newtoni - a large bird reminiscent of the emus and cassowaries, but more closely related to ducks, geese and swans. 55c Diprotodon optatumm - a giant wombat with two large projecting teeth. and Finally a $1.10 Magalania prisca - a massive lizard species likened to the current Komodo Dragon.The 60mm medallion features the Diprotodon Optatum on the Obverse and the Skeleton on the Reverse.
