2007 Sydney Harbour Bridge Toll PackTaking 1,200 men more than eight years to complete, the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge cost over £4m.A substantial sum under any circumstances, the onset of the economic turmoil of the Great Depression midway through the building process placed New South Wales Government under immense pressure. To pay for Sydney's magnificent new structure, a toll for use was imposed. A fascinating reflection of a society in transition, people using cars 6d (5c) and those still using horses 3d (2c) were required to pay to cross the bridge. Although the cost of construction was covered by the 1980s, the toll has remained in place, with proceeds used to pay the millions of dollars needed each year for maintenance of the bridge. From the early years of the pre decimal era and now scarce, the 1911 - 36 George V sterling silver 3d and 6d coins in this Sydney Harbour Bridge 75th Anniversary commemorative presentation are graded Fine.Composition : 92.5% Silver, 7.5% Copper.Threepence : Weight 1.41gms, Size 16mmSixpence : Weight 2.83gms, Size 19mm
