Honouring 100 years of nationhood, Australia celebrates the Centenary of Federation in 2001.Uniting the colonies as one country, and confirming a growing sense of national identity, the official ceremony was held in Sydney's Centennial Park on January 1st 1901.

Celebrating the most important milestone on the road to independence, the 100th anniversary of Federation has been recognised with the approval of an official legal tender commemorative.

In strictly uncirculated condition, the 2001 Centenary of Federation 50c is struck by the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra.

Bearing the official logo on the reverse, each coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
